An animatic is a pre-visualisation tool used in filmmaking and animation. It consists of a sequence of still images or rough sketches accompanied by a soundtrack. This helps filmmakers plan and visualise the flow of a scene before actual animation or filming takes place, providing a blueprint for the final product.
Check out my animatic! The first one minute at least of my short litrpg series Into Pixels. The full version is on my Patreon account 😀.
Why do you need an animatic?
An animatic serves several purposes. It helps filmmakers and animators plan the timing, pacing, and composition of scenes, ensuring a cohesive and effective storytelling flow. It allows for early feedback and adjustments before committing to full animation, saving time and resources. Additionally, it aids in conveying the director’s vision to the production team, aligning everyone on the creative direction of the project.
A next step particularly in 3d is called layout you can see more on this in the following post along with my process and some tools I use to help in the laying out of a shot and scene.
